City schools say social media threat not credible
The Dunkirk City School District has determined there’s no credible threat behind a social media post Thursday night that suggested harm to school safety.
District Superintendent Brian Swatland posted about the incident this morning on DCSD’s social media page. He posted a letter addressed to intermediate school families.
Swatland said the district investigated the post in coordination with its School Resource Officer, and sought assistance from the Dunkirk Police Department. The district “communicated with families and students to gather information.”
Through that process, “and after a safety assessment, it has been determined there is no credible threat.”
Swatland emphasized “the importance of reporting concerns. If students hear or see something concerning — whether online or in person — they should immediately tell a trusted adult.”
He said intermediate school counselors are available for children experiencing anxiety from the latest incident.
The superintendent suggested that parents “remind your child that making threats — even as a ‘joke’ — has serious consequences on emotional well-being.”
