COLLINS — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Bureau is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred late Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff John Garcia announced.

At 4:01 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a male was on the ground with a motorcycle nearby in the area of 4040 Zoar Valley Road. Patrol arrived to find the victim – a 68-year-old Derby man – with serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to School St. in Collins, where he boarded a Mercy Flight helicopter. Mercy Flight transported him to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, where doctors pronounced the victim deceased.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
