Community mourns passing of Randolph school junior
RANDOLPH – Randolph Central School officials are making plans to help students mourn the passing of a junior at Randolph High School.
On Tuesday, Kaine Kelly, Randolph superintendent, sent a note home with students as well as posting the letter on the district’s Facebook page.
“It is with great sadness that we share that one of our 11th grade students passed away as the result of a motor vehicle accident,” Kelly said in the letter. “We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family and loved ones. Our thoughts, prayers and support are with them during this incredibly difficult time.”
The district’s Crisis Response Team has met and is available for students, faculty, staff and community members in the wake of the unnamed student’s death. Kelly said parents whose children need additional support should reach out to their child’s teacher, school counselor or building principal.
“We are committed to helping in any way we can,” Kelly said.
The accident, according to a New York State Police blotter report, took place at 3:44 p.m. Monday at State Route 62 and Waterboro Hill Road in Conewango. There were two people in the vehicle, according to the blotter report, with a 17-year-old unnamed youth killed in the accident and a 56-year-old Randolph man also in the vehicle.
