Fredonia eyes paving, including Central Ave.
David Bird, Fredonia Department of Public Works director.
Fredonia is set to repave some streets starting Monday, including part of Central Avenue.
Village Department of Public Works Director Dave Bird told a Board of Trustees workshop that repaving of Central Avenue is set for Monday and Tuesday, from Newton Avenue to “the intersection.” He evidently meant where Central ends at Temple Street. That intersection was ravaged by a water main break in January and has had only temporary repairs.
Village officials are currently eying a project that would replace a water main on Central Avenue. However, “We’re at the point now where that street’s bad,” Bird said.
Mayor Michael Ferguson worried that out-of-towers coming in for various graduation ceremonies will see the poor condition of Central Avenue and its intersection with Temple.
“Frankly, we already had a guy flip on a bike, supposedly hurt himself, on something back there,” he said. “I’ve seen people bottom their car out on the Temple Street area.”
“We made temporary repairs. We fixed eight or nine cuts in the roads, so the roads are much better than they were two weeks ago,” Bird said.
He added, “The road numbers came in real well, we got April pricing on the blacktop and stuff like that.”
Bird said the state’s Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) will reimburse the pacing work, which will fall under the 2026-27 budget.
