Area Meals on Wheels celebrates volunteers
Executive Director Stephanie Wright with Joan Will, volunteer of the year.
The Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels recently celebrated its dedicated volunteers during the annual Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Board of Directors at Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church. Under the theme of “Joy,” the event served as a heartfelt thank-you to the individuals who make it possible for the organization to fulfill its mission of “Wellness delivered one door at a time.”
Board President Dan Lawrence opened the event by emphasizing that the volunteers’ work goes beyond the nutritional value of a meal; it is about bringing kindness and connection into the lives of clients. Executive Director Stephanie Wright reinforced this message, highlighting that Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels serves as a vital safety net for the community. She reminded attendees of the importance of “getting eyes” on clients daily, noting that volunteer vigilance has, on several occasions, resulted in emergency care that saved lives.
The highlight of the afternoon was the recognition of long-term volunteers, each of whom received a Certificate of Appreciation from the offices of U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy, state Sen. George Borrello and Assemblyman Andrew Molitor, District 150, in honor of their service:
— Five-year recipients — Joe Kwiatkowski, Susan Parker, Bill Styborski, and Sue Styborski.
— 10-year recipients — Eileen Ardillo, Ed Pagano Jr. and Joan Will.
The organization was particularly proud to name Will as the 2026 Volunteer of the Year. Will is known for her deep compassion and the genuine friendships she builds with the clients on her route, embodying the very best of DFMOW’s service values.
Executive Director Stephanie Wright said of Will, “I am so grateful for Joan’s willingness to assist us in any way she can, especially during our transition in leadership. I truly leaned on her experience and her wisdom.”
The afternoon included a prayer led by Pastor Zoe Milliman, a catered lunch by Marlene’s, and a spirited closing song of cheer led by board member and volunteer Kerry Askin.
Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels remains grateful for its volunteers and continues to welcome new members to the team. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to visit https://www.dfmealsonwheels.org/volunteer to learn more and sign up.
