MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County has issued a statement regarding an incident Thursday at the clerk’s office.

According to the news release, a self-described First Amendment auditor visiting the Chautauqua County Clerk’s Office was involved in an altercation with a non-county employee in the records room.

Building security and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. No county employees were involved in the altercation.

The Chautauqua County clerk is aware of the incident and is fully cooperating with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office as it investigates the matter.
