Pomfret seeks more on Fire Department activity

Pomfret Town Board members want more information from the Fredonia Fire Department about their monthly activities.

The town contracts with the village for fire protection services, and the Fredonia Fire Department offers monthly reports to Pomfret. Town board members EvaDawn Bashaw and Kathleen Dennison had some questions about the report at the June Pomfret Town Board meeting.

Bashaw said she wanted to know the hours worked in the town by paid Fredonia Fire Department employees. She said Pomfret currently gets information on volunteer firefighters’ hours, but that is not as relevant as the paid firefighters’ hours.

Dennison wanted to know if the Fredonia Fire Department cost recovery figures are actual or projected. “It’s marked as revenue collected, but that’s a good question,” said Pomfret Town Supervisor Daniel Pacos.

The board decided to reach out to the fire department with its questions. Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers evidently got the message — he notified the Fredonia Board of Trustees at its workshop Monday that Pomfret had concerns about the reports it gets.

He did not go into those concerns, asking for an executive session to discuss them because they are about a contract. The trustees granted him that session at the end of the workshop.

Myers did offer an overall department cost recovery figure at the workshop. He said his department took in $1,137,506 for the village’s 2025-26 fiscal year. Myers called that “very good, the best since I’ve been here.” The department had $575,136 in emergency medical services revenue.

Starting at $4.00/week.
