Wdowiasz hails addition of new comptroller for city
Tracy L. Smith-Dengler
Dunkirk Mayor Kate Wdowiasz is pleased to announce a well qualified Dunkirk resident has accepted the new city comptroller position that Common Council approved in response to firm recommendations by the Office of the New York state comptroller.
Tracy L. Smith-Dengler will bring her 26 years of public and private administrative experience on board to help right Dunkirk’s rocking financial ship starting in mid July.
Smith-Dengler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from SUNY Fredonia, with an emphasis in Management. Her professional career is highlighted with five years as Operations Manager for a large manufacturer, and more than 20 years after that as an official in finance and management for several school districts and educational support agencies in the western New York region. Her performance and contributions at each location have been stellar.
Wdowiasz said she inherited previously unknown deep financial fissures as she took office. She has worked diligently with the State Comptroller and with the governor, among others, to map and understand those fissures. The mayor said she has assembled a dedicated professional team she works closely with, including Amy Dobek as City Clerk/Treasurer, and Fiscal Affairs Officer Ellen Luczkowiak — both of whom bring strong financial backgrounds as former bank officials.
Smith-Dengler, along with the mayor, will head that team for active and proactive financial control.
