A construction worker was injured late Friday night after falling from a section of the Chautauqua Lake Bridge onto a safety deck about 18 feet below.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m., prompting a response from the Chautauqua County Technical Rescue Team, firefighters from Ashville and Bemus Point, and Chautauqua County EMS.

The worker reportedly suffered multiple injuries in the fall. Rescue crews spent about an hour extricating the victim from the safety deck before transporting the individual by ambulance to the Ashville Fire Department.

From there, Mercy Flight transported the worker to an Erie, Pa., hospital for further treatment.

The Chautauqua Lake Bridge is currently undergoing an extensive rehabilitation project.
