Brocton benefits from FeedMore, Library partnership

BROCTON -- Several months ago, Ahira Hall Memorial Library Director Julie Morrison Putcher formed a partnership with FeedMore WNY to bring a food truck carrying affordable, local produce available for purchase at Ryckman Park. The results have been very favorable.
"So far, everything has been going fantastic," Putcher said.
Putcher noted that roughly 30-40 area residents have purchased food from the FeedMore truck each time it came by. The truck visits twice a month, and accepts cash and credit/debit cards, as well as EBT and SNAP benefits up to 50% off. All food available is certified and locally grown, and all priced at $5 or less.
Upcoming FeedMore WNY food truck visits to Ryckman Park are Aug. 14, Aug. 28, Sept. 11, and Sept. 25. The Library is also proud to serve meals each day to children in the community throughout the summer.
"We appreciate everything the Library does. I don't think the community knows just how important the Library is and what the great functions are that you do," said Mayor Craig Miller.
The Library also organizes the Music in the Park summer concert series each year at Ryckman Park. July closes out with Swamp Yankees DUO on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., supported in memory of Sharon Morrison, a lifelong musician. On Aug. 6, Bill Piper and Company will perform at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by Peter D. Clark, Attorney at Law. On Aug. 13, Check 1, 2, 3 will perform at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Krauth family. A rain date of Aug. 20 is available, if necessary. The concerts are supported by the Town of Portland and the Village of Brocton, and all proceeds from the concerts benefit the Library.
Also of note, the Brocton-Portland Summer Recreation Program has been averaging roughly 50 children per day so far this summer. The Village Board is pleased with the progress of the program this summer under the direction of Cynthia Furman as Recreation Director. Banner Bundy was appointed by the Village Board as a per diem summer recreation employee to cover for absences with the summer recreation staff.
Revisiting a previous discussion, the Village Board approved a donation of $2,500 to the Brocton-Portland Little League from the recreation center’s budget line to support the renovations made to the facilities by the Little League.
The next Brocton Village Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.
