Buffalo Street plans ‘progressing’ in Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK -- Mayor Kathy Tampio and Deputy Mayor Jeff Hornburg recently took a walk all the way down Buffalo Street with engineers from EcoStrategies and Department of Public Works Supervisor Brianna Griewisch to discuss potential upgrades to the street.
Tampio said there was "very good discussion" about the project, and the plans were reviewed and revised. Final plans for the project are being developed, with hopes of breaking ground at some point in 2027.
"That's progressing. It's good to see," Tampio said.
Residents have asked the Village Board to make improvements to Buffalo Street for several years, including new pavement, drainage, and curbing. Resident Paul Bogosian even presented a petition to the Village Board signed by residents to show their support of the necessary improvements to Buffalo Street.
Since then, EcoStrategies was awarded a contract to handle the planning phase of the project in the amount of $15,000. Tampio said the project will be quite costly, so the Village will pursue grant funding to support the project. Rebecca Wurster, Special Projects Coordinator with the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Development, will help the Village in hopes of securing grant funding.
Tampio said that once the plans are finalized and the project is ready to move forward, a public meeting will be offered to the residents of Buffalo Street to review the project.
Also of note, Tampio congratulated Wayne and Elaine Hotelling for a successful 30th year of holding the Laurel Run. Tampio said that even with the poor air quality due to Canadian wildfires, the event was "a wonderful success."
The Village Board is expecting to appoint a new seven-member Planning Board in the coming weeks. The Village considered combining the Planning Board and the Zoning Board into one board with the duties of both, but instead, the Village received enough interest from the community to fill a traditional Planning Board.
The Village also ended its regular portion of its recent meeting to enter into executive session to further discuss the CSEA contract, which appeared to be close to ratification, but a hang-up in the proposed language of a "tentative" settlement led to further Board discussion.
The Board recently issued a resolution of support for the Williams Constitution Pipeline project, a proposed natural gas transmission line designed to transport energy from the Marcellus Shale region in northeastern Pennsylvania to support key markets across New York and New England. The resolution was tabled by the Board at a previous meeting to allow Trustees more time to research the matter.
The Village-wide Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1. There is a $10 entrance fee to have a home registered and listed on the maps distributed throughout Silver Creek and Hanover. Visit the Village Hall or the Town Hall to sign up.
The next Mobile Food Pantry event, sponsored by the Silver Creek Food Pantry, the Village of Silver Creek, and Feedmore WNY, will be on Tuesday, July 28, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at the village municipal parking lot. The event is free of charge to residents of Silver Creek and other nearby communities. The Village appreciates and welcomes all volunteers.
The next Silver Creek Village Board meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.
