This time of year, the weather is so nice, it's a shame to spend hours indoors instead of enjoying time in the sun. This Sunday, families will get to enjoy the outdoors even for Sunday Mass in an event designed to not only raise funds, but strengthen bonds within the Catholic community.
The Lord's Vineyard Family of Parishes, in partnership with Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, will be hosting "Family Fest" this Sunday, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Grounds located at 1032 Central Avenue in Dunkirk.
"It's planned to be a friend-raiser," said Tony Popielarz of The Lord's Vineyard Family of Parishes. "We want to create new friends with the mergers and with everything that is going on with the Diocese of Buffalo. We just want to have some fun."
The event begins with an Outdoor Mass at 11 a.m., but organizers said of the event, "Come for the Outdoor Mass and stay for the fun."
Over the six-hour event, there will be plenty of festivities. At noon, a chicken and ribs barbecue will be held by BW’s Smokin’ Barrels Barbecue of Blasdell. Plenty of other food and drink vendors will be on site, including Blasdell Pizza and Franklin's Kettle Korn, with hotdogs and hamburgers also available. Wine tasting will be offered by 21 Brix Winery, and other refreshments will be available, as well.
From 1 to 4 p.m., Seven, a polka band based in Buffalo, will be performing. There will also be face painting, games, and a bounce house for children, as well as adult games like a putting contest and a free-throw contest.
More than 125 baskets will be available in a basket raffle. The Buffalo Bills Store will be setting up a tent with Bills merchandise for sale, as well.
Barbecue tickets are available at Big Rick's One Stop in Dunkirk until Saturday, and at the event, as well.
