The group of about 120 members, which operates Gumba’s restaurant on Orchard Street in Fredonia, will host “The Ox Roast at the Dunkirk Lighthouse” all day Sunday, July 19.
Rob Clark of the Sicilian Historical Society said the idea for the Lighthouse event came from highly successful fundraisers held at Gumba’s.
“A couple of years, we raised thousands of dollars at our fall party. It’s for anyone who wants to come in and hobnob with the philanthropists,” he said.
The July 19 event will feature sausage, hot dogs and clam chowder for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner shall be served at 5 p.m. and will consist of roast beef, corn on the cob and potatoes. Beer and soda will be provided.

Admission costs $50. Ticket buyers will be issued a wristband that gets them both lunch and dinner; wristband holders can come and go from the party as they please.
Tickets are available from several Sicilian Historical Society members, and at Gumba’s (44 Orchard St., 716-401-3030).
“We’re catering it out of Gumba’s, but this is not a Gumba’s event,” Clark said. “Gumba’s makes and sells food. The Sicilian Historical Society is more of a philanthropical organization.”
“We make nothing off this,” said the Sicilian Historical Society’s Paul Luce. “Some people think we take something, but not at all.
“It’s for St. Jude, a good cause. They need it.”

Clark said he is putting together raffles and other activities, but nothing was set when he spoke with the OBSERVER last week. Regardless, as he put it, “If you give me two hours at the Point, I’m going to see that beach. There’s plenty to see.”
Luce said the Lighthouse will also be offering half-price tours that day.
