Route 5 detour causes bridge mishap in city
The Route 5 detour due to bridge work has led to another mishap — this one on Brigham Road in the city. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Friday and did extensive damage to the tractor-trailer. On Tuesday, the detour led to an RV striking the Willow Road bridge, which allows for passage under the railroad tracks for vehicles 10 feet tall and under. Canadaway Creek Bridge on Route 5 is currently being replaced. The closure began in May and is expected until approximately Labor Day, according to the latest update from the State Department of Transportation. Initially, the DOT said the project will conclude by the end of 2026.
