Teen charged in May city shooting

An investigation into a May shooting in the city of Dunkirk has led to charges against a teenager.

In a news release issued Wednesday, Dunkirk police report the 15-year-old was charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and felony second-degree assault. At approximately 11:30 p.m. May 24, officers from the Dunkirk Police Department responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Lamphere and East Seventh streets. During the investigation, officers learned that a juvenile victim was being treated at a hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Because the individuals involved are juveniles, no further information regarding the investigation will be released. The Dunkirk Police Department said it “would like to extend our gratitude to all agencies that assisted with the investigation.”
