A cabin located off Route 60 suffered extensive damage in a blaze Monday evening. At 8:08 p.m., 911 calls reported a house engulfed in fire at 8407 Route 60 in Pomfret . Within minutes, Fredonia Fire Department arrived to find the cabin consumed by heavy flames. Firefighters quickly began battling the blaze, knowing the nearest hydrant was too far away. Tankers from neighboring departments rolled in, creating a steady flow of water as crews worked side by side. Firefighters from Fredonia and six mutual-aid departments fought the blaze through the night. Hours later, the flames were extinguished. No firefighters were injured. Investigators determined the fire was accidental.
