Familiar faces among Fredonia’s new hires

Three new Special Education Teachers are joining the Fredonia Central School District, and two of the three already know the school very well.
The district's latest hires are Gabby Domenico, Haleigh Miller, and Olivia Wiktor. Domenico and Miller are both graduates of Fredonia High School.
Domenico has prior work experience at Dunkirk Intermediate School, Northern Chautauqua Catholic School, and the Erie II BOCES LoGuidice Center, as well as fieldwork with the Fredonia Central School District. She holds initial certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) and is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia.
"We are absolutely excited to have Gabby join the team," said Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox.
In pursuing a career in education, Domenico follows in the footsteps of her mother, Jill Domenico, a Dunkirk Teacher and Advisor of the Dunkirk Unified Club. The Domenico family attended the recent Board of Education meeting to celebrate Gabby's appointment.
"I'm so excited to be part of the district again. Hopefully I can give students the same experience that I got to experience," Domenico said.
Miller has been serving as a Teacher Aide at Fredonia and also has work experience in Dunkirk and Jamestown. She holds initial certifications in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2), Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), and Students with Disabilities (All Grades). Miller is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia.
"I'm really excited to work with everyone," Miller said.
Wiktor, a SUNY Brockport graduate, holds initial certifications in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6), Students with Disabilities (All Grades), and Literacy (All Grades). She also has training in safety care, and has previously worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Lake Shore Central School District and as a Third Grade Teacher at Southtowns Catholic School.
"I'm super excited and super thankful for the opportunity," Wiktor said.
All three new teachers will begin a four-year probationary period of employment on Aug. 31. They can become eligible for tenure on Aug. 30, 2030.
The Board of Education also approved the appointment of Megan Ferguson as a Teaching Assistant, effective Aug. 1. Ferguson has been serving as a Teacher Aide. Her new position carries a four-year probationary period.
"I am so happy to be back in the district, not only back to where I started in the middle school," Ferguson said. "I look forward to ... watching our students grow and assisting them in any way I can."
In addition to Miller and Ferguson resigning from their roles as Teacher Aides, four other employees resigned from the district, including Teachers John Giacco and Jeni Wilson, Teacher Aide Jean Pacheco, and Teaching Assistant William Wright for the purpose of retirement.
The next meeting of the Fredonia Board of Education is scheduled for today at 6 p.m. in the High School Library.
