Fredonia gets water pact draft from district

Fredonia's trustees have a contract proposal from the North County Water District, Mayor Michael Ferguson said Monday. One trustee called it "very vague."
"The draft, I believe, has been sent to you," Ferguson told the five trustees at their Monday workshop. "Now we need to set the committee date, hopefully this week or next week, to sit down and start hammering this away and taking it apart."
Ferguson added, "We just got the draft, so you don't have to go through it tonight during this meeting. I think we do have to get a committee together to start these discussions and move forward. There's a lot that needs to be added. There's a lot that needs to be edited or changed or discussed."
No details of the proposal were mentioned at the workshop.
Trustee LeeAnn Lazarony commented that Trustee Paul Wandel had a good idea about reaching out to other municipalities to see what their contracts are like.
Lazarony said she would reach out to an attorney acquaintance who represents Niagara County’s water district. "I can follow the same path with my contact in Tonawanda," Wandel said.
"I think that we should do that and have some models to go by," Lazarony said.
She added, "The draft of this contract is very vague."
Ferguson said, "We've had two (contract) meetings with them and there were things that I asked them to put in there. And now, we sit down as a group."
Lazarony asked Ferguson to clarify the slate of village meetings with the NCWD. Ferguson said that beyond the two contract meetings, village officials and NCWD's representatives have met once a month recently on Fredonia's overall plan to buy water from the district.
"The ball is in our court now to initiate our contract meetings on the village side," Wandel said. He said village officials must suss out "what we have seen from other models (and) what is appropriate for the village."
"Let's get an email going on dates and times so we can pick it up," Ferguson concluded the discussion. "We can use my office, this (meeting room), whatever you want to do."
