SHERIDAN -- With the outdated structures now gone and a new bathhouse at Sheridan Bay Park now fully installed, the park can now live up to the words on its entrance sign: "The place to stay is at the bay."
The general contractor for the bathhouse project was 3 Pete’s Masonry, with additional services handled by BECC Electric, Chautauqua Mechanical, and Vastola Heating and Cooling. The Town Highway Department handled the demolition of the existing bathhouse.
The Town was responsible for 25% of the project, with 75% reimbursed by the State. Now that the project has been completed, Grant Consultant Jody Falkner sent the first voucher to the State in the amount of $326,993.49, and the Town received a deposit of $245,245.11.
Earlier this summer, after consulting with the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Town Board authorized Highway Superintendent Jeff Feinen to spend up to $25,000 to rectify erosion and flooding issues along the creek near Sheridan Bay Park leading into the town’s beach. The beach is often washed out whenever the creek overflows. The Town Board took action to maintain the shoreline to keep the beach open and safe for public use.
In other news, pertaining to Water District 4, the Town is bonding $445,000, rather than the previously authorized amount of $487,000. Total billing has come in lower than the maximum anticipated amount. The funds will be available to the Town by Sept. 15.
The Town Board authorized Feinen to rent an excavator at a monthly rate of $6,300 through Baschmann Services Inc., and a remote control roller at a monthly rate of $1,850 plus $600 for delivery and pick-up to aid in the replacement of the culvert on Newell Road. The agreements, plus purchase of guard rails, gravel and blacktop, shall not exceed $15,000. The pipe on Newell Road has been installed and will be fully opened once guard rails are set.
The Town Board also approved Feinen's hire of Mitchell Gage to the open full-time Motor Equipment Operator position at a rate of $22.52 per hour.
In the month of June, the Town Justice Court disposed of 133 Vehicle and Traffic Law cases, 15 Penal Law cases, and one Traffic Law case. A total of $14,038.66 was collected in June. In the month of July, the Justice Court disposed of 150 Vehicle and Traffic Law cases, five Penal Law cases, one Public Health Law case, and one Environmental Conservation Law case. A total of $16,801 was collected for distribution in July.
The Code Enforcement Office received 13 building permit applications in June, and issued eight certificates of occupancy and eight certificates of compliance. There were 32 inspections on construction, one public safety inspection, five investigations of a complaint, and five notices of violation issued in June. A total of $705 was collected in the month of June. In the month of July, the Code Enforcement Office received 12 building permit applications, and issued four certificates of occupancy and three certificates of compliance. There were 18 inspections on construction, six public safety inspections, five investigations of complaints and five notices of violation. A total of $1,282.50 was collected and turned over for distribution in July.
In the month of June, the Town Clerk's Office collected a total of $214.50, with $27 sent to the State Department of Agriculture and Markets and $23.50 sent to the State Department of Health. The Town Clerk's Office collected $341.50 in the month of July, with $29 sent to the State Department of Agriculture and Markets and $22.50 sent to the State Department of Health.
The Town Board also gave its blessing for Liberty Vineyards & Winery to reschedule its SKECHERS Wicked Wine Run to Saturday, Oct. 3. The 1K and 5K run/walk was previously approved to be on July 18, but it was postponed due to poor air quality due to the Canadian wildfires.
