Fredonia Treasurer Erlyssa LeBeau offered a report on the village's 2025-26 fiscal year at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting.
Mayor Michael Ferguson called the report "Not always perfect, but certainly better than last year."
Fredonia's main budget line, aka "general fund," wound up in positive territory by $504,595. The village's revenue was $9,011,886 and its expenses ran to $8,507,290, according to LeBeau. (Figures are rounded to the nearest dollar.) That represents a significant improvement over the 2024-25 closing total of minus $224,677.
However, the "general fund" had a negative fund balance of $947,418. That is a considerable loss from the fund balance ending 2024-25, which was already in negative territory. The 2024-25 year-end figure was minus $362,626.
The water and sewer funds offered more negative news. Both spent more than they took in for 2025-26, according to the treasurer's figures.
Year-end revenue for the water fund was $2,190,004 against $2,540,000 in expenses, LeBeau reported. That comes out to a net income of minus $349,996. The fund balance in place registered at $385,834.
As for the sewer fund, it had $1,957,901 of revenue against $2,106,015 of expenses for 2025-26. That's a negative net income of $148,114. The sewer budget's fund balance came in at $477,140.
After LeBeau finished her report, Ferguson commented that suggestions from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office which "were started in last year’s budget, helped us improve this year’s budget."
Ferguson added that "Department heads deserve credit for being much more diligent" on staying within budget, and accountable, on their spending.
