FORESTVILLE -- When something works, why change it? That is the thought process behind the Forestville Fall Festival this year, as the annual tradition will return to the hamlet of Forestville on the first weekend of October, just as it did a year ago.
Forestville Middle/High School will again serve as host to the annual festivities. The festival begins at 10 a.m. each day, Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4.
There will be a craft show throughout each day of the festival, along with various children's activities. Craft shows begin at 10 a.m. each day, wrapping up at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Produce and food vendors will be filling the halls and the gymnasium each day, as well.
A Chili Cook-Off contest will be held on Saturday, of which anyone can enter. Contestants are asked to name their chili and bring a five-quart crockpot by noon Saturday to participate. Guests will judge the chili before a winner is crowned late Saturday afternoon. On Saturday at 7 p.m., the American Legion will host a Meat Party.
Sunday, the Forestville Fire Department will be holding a chicken barbecue at the Fire Hall. The chicken barbecue starts at noon and runs until it is sold out.
Local entities such as Imagine Forestville, the local Boy Scouts, and the Fall Festival Committee come together each fall to support the annual festival. Main Street in Forestville is decorated for the season well in advance each year. The Fall Festival Committee, led by Carol McEntarfer and Carol Woodward, support local causes with the profits from the event each year. McEntarfer said the support of the community through its various organizations is what motivates the committee to continue hosting the festival each year.
