Fredonia Trustee Paul Wandel has offered his latest update on village dealings with the North County Water District.
Wandel has become trustees' point man for the project to connect Fredonia's water system with the district. He offered another report on the saga during last week's Board of Trustees meeting.
He first noted a late August conversation with Chautauqua County Department of Health officials regarding questions brought up during Fredonia's July water information session.
Wandel promised that his question-and-answer session with the health officials will be posted on the water project section of the village website.
"We want the public to be as well informed as possible on what the status of our major water source project is," Wandel claimed.
Wandel said he coordinated a tour of the city of Dunkirk's water treatment facility for his fellow trustees. The facility is the sole supplier of water to the North County Water District.
Wandel met with the Department of Public Works Sept. 3 to transfer new maps of village water lines. The maps will help the village revise and update information about its water system, he said.
Finally, Wandel discussed recent meetings with LaBella, the engineering firm assisting the village with the water project.
He pointed out that their "basis of design report" on the project is due Sept. 30.
Wandel said a series of contracts related to the project required trustees' attention. "I would say this is really important for the board to hear right now," he opined.
The first priority is the village's contract with the North County Water District. "Priority is immediate," Wandel said.. "We need to look at that contract, evaluate that contract, and get going on that."
There is also a water contract with the town of Pomfret, whose pipes will supply the water district's product to Fredonia, due in December.
The village will also need a contract on a water tower that is supposed to be shared with Pomfret. A fourth contract on the docket is one already in place, an agreement with Dunkirk on sharing a Vineyard Drive pump station. Wandel said the contract "will need to be adjusted."
