Hanover to seek CDBG funds for housing rehabilitation

HANOVER -- At the next regular meeting of the Hanover Town Board, set for Monday at 7 p.m., a public hearing will be held just after the meeting commences to discuss community development needs pertaining to the potential submission of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.
The CDBG program is administered by the New York State Homes and Community Renewal, with approximately $45 million in funding available to local governments to address housing and public infrastructure needs.
The Town of Hanover is applying for $700,000 in CDBG funds to provide housing rehabilitation to eligible applicants. The hearing will provide CDBG program information and accept public input on proposed grant applications and alternative project ideas. The Town has been successful in recent years with the CDBG program, with several local homeowners each year receiving funds for necessary upgrades to their homes through the Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation.
Also of note, the Town Highway Department is seeking bids for the purchase of a four-wheel-drive pickup truck with snowplow and accessories to replace the 2011 pickup truck currently in use by the Department.
The Town Board changed the civil service title of Alex Fenske to Temporary Inspection Officer to satisfy civil service hiring requirements.
In the month of July, the Town Clerk's Office collected $830 in State, County, and local revenue, stemming from issuing 41 dog licenses, 15 State Department of Environmental Conservation licenses, two marriage licenses, and 14 handicap tags. The Clerk's Office also collected $7,790.22 in Water and Sewer revenue. The Code Enforcement Office issued 28 permits in July - 15 in Hanover and 13 in Silver Creek - with a total of $2,445 collected for the month.
The Town Justice Court disposed of 233 Vehicle and Traffic Law cases, four Penal Law cases, three Civil Law cases, two Environmental Law cases, and local parking law cases for both the town of Hanover and the village of Silver Creek. In total, $17,540 was collected in the month of July. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office reported 467 deputy responses in July.
