WESTFIELD — An incident involving a disorderly individual had the village of Westfield on alert Wednesday morning.
At approximately 10 a.m., officers from the Westfield Police Department, New York State Police, and Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office responded to Westfield Memorial Hospital regarding the individual inside the hospital. Out of an abundance of caution, Westfield Academy Central Schools activated its SHELL Protocol to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. SHELL stands for Shelter-in-Place, Hold-in-Place, Evacuate, Lockout, and Lockdown.
During this incident, the school activated a Lockout. A Lockout is a precautionary security measure intended to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the school while normal activities continue inside the building.
There was no direct threat to Westfield Academy and Central School associated with this incident.
The situation at Westfield Memorial Hospital was resolved without further incident. There is no ongoing threat to the hospital, school, or surrounding community. Once the situation was resolved, the precautionary Lockout at Westfield Academy and Central School was lifted and normal operations resumed.
