Man charged after domestic incident in city

A domestic incident with a gun on Deer Street has led to multiple charges for one man.

At around 12:18 a.m. Monday, Dunkirk Police responded to the 600 block of Deer Street for a third-party report of an alleged ongoing dispute. The third party also reported the boyfriend of the victim was not allowing the victim to leave the residence, as the victim was claiming injury, as he was armed with a gun.

Officers made contact at the residence where Jose M. Salgado refused to allow officers to check the well-being of the victim inside the residence. Officers could hear the female victim yelling for help and medical attention inside the residence. Once officers made entry into the residence, Salgado physically resisted and was taken into custody and transported to city police headquarters.

The victim was medically evaluated by Fire Rescue. After an investigation it was determined Salgado struck the victim multiple times, waved a loaded handgun at the victim, took away the victim's cellphone as the victim was calling for help and at one point was physically restricting the victim from movement.

Salgado was arraigned on in Dunkirk City Court on second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree aggravated harassment, fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
