Mayor Mike Ferguson and the Village of Fredonia recently recognized Principal Amy Piper and the Wheelock Early Childhood Center with an official proclamation to celebrate the work they do for the young children of Fredonia.
The proclamation credited Wheelock for "demonstrating outstanding leadership, vision, and steadfast dedication" to the children of the Fredonia school community. It further stated, "The Center continually goes above and beyond to cultivate a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where early learners can explore, grow and thrive."
Piper responded that she is "surrounded by great people." She highlighted that over 40 community organizations and businesses supported the Wheelock Jamboree back to school event, as well as law enforcement and student volunteers.
"It was just fantastic," Piper said. "The vibe was great. ... Lots of great feedback from the community and from parents."
The district also put a longstanding agreement in writing to officially declare Children's Educational Services, Inc., as a community based organization for its efforts providing pre-kindergarten services to students residing in the Fredonia Central School District with the Little Seeds program.
The Board approved a series of agreements at its recent meeting. Bids were awarded to Willett Builders, Inc., and BECC Electric for generators and labor, as approved in Proposition 1 of the 2024 Capital Improvement Project. Willett Builders will receive $81,000 for plumbing work, while BECC Electric will receive $336,000 for electrical work, specifically focusing on generators. A total of nine bids were submitted.
Additionally, transportation contracts with First Student and with Erie Bus, Inc., were approved, varying in costs of $675.12 to $745 per day. Hearing Evaluation Services of Buffalo, Inc., will provide the district with audiology services, and The Resource Center will provide job coaching services for individuals as they transition from the school setting to the workforce.
The next regular Fredonia Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. in the High School Library.
