McMahon shifts to Forestville SPED Director; Crandall is interim principal

FORESTVILLE -- The Forestville Central School District has a new Director of Special Education, and it is a familiar face. Shauna McMahon has transitioned from the role of Forestville Elementary Principal to become the district's new head of the Special Education department.
McMahon was approved for the role at a special meeting shortly before the school year began. She replaces Aaron Bevill, who was terminated at the same meeting while still in a probationary period of employment. McMahon's experience prior to being named as Elementary Principal was in the field of Special Education.
Recently, McMahon had pulled back from some of her duties as Elementary Principal due to health concerns in her immediate family. Superintendent Dr. John O'Connor had been filling her shoes in recent months.
Naming McMahon as the new Director of Special Education gives her more flexibility, while also utilizing her strengths to benefit the district.
O'Connor -- knowing a full-time employee was necessary until the role was filled permanently -- recommended a longtime colleague for the interim role of Elementary Principal. The Board officially appointed Todd Crandall as interim Elementary Principal.
Crandall is a former Superintendent of Silver Creek Central School and an administrator at several districts across the county. O'Connor has worked closely with Crandall in the past, and with Crandall available to help out other districts when necessary since he retired as a superintendent back in 2023, he felt like the perfect choice. Crandall has stepped in as an administrator in Fredonia and Westfield recently, as well.
Crandall began earlier this month, and O'Connor said, "he seems to be hitting the ground running." The search for a permanent Forestville Elementary Principal is underway. The district hopes to have its new hire in place by January.
The Board also recently appointed Jennifer Newkirk as a 10-month Cook and MaryJane Meadows as a 10-month Floater/Monitor/Aide. Richard Franklin and Kristen Bellis were approved as Substitute Bus Drivers; Laurie Strong was approved as an uncertified Substitute Teacher; and Joanne Moss was approved as a Substitute Floater/Monitor/Aide.
Ashley Cross, Monique Cleary, Laura LeBaron, Lindsey Ruffo, Kelly Raichel, and Jon LeBaron were named as Teacher Mentors. Sydney Youngberg was approved as a volunteer Volleyball Assistant. The first reading of a policy, titled, "Privacy and Security for Student Data and Teacher and Principal Data", was held at the Board's most recent meeting.
The next Forestville Board of Education meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the Middle/High School Library.
