SILVER CREEK -- One of the staples of the Silver Creek Central School District has moved on from the district. Jennifer Johnson has resigned as Director of Health and Wellness, effective Friday.
Johnson said in her resignation letter, "I am grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and relationships I have gained during my time with the district. It has been a privilege to serve our students, families, and staff, and I truly appreciate the support and collaboration I have received throughout my time here."
Johnson, a Registered Nurse, spent 13 years at Silver Creek in various roles related to student health and wellness. She also co-coached the Unified Basketball Team with her husband, Wes, the School Resource Officer. Johnson said her decision to step away from the district "was not made lightly", but added that she believes it is the right next step, "both personally and professionally."
Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston said of Johnson's departure, "She has always been such a special person here. She cares so much about our students, our staff, our families, our community, and we care just as deeply for her. We wish her all the best."
While Jennifer Johnson is stepping away from Silver Creek, her husband, Wes, is sticking around for another year. The Board of Education officially approved a contract extension with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office for a School Resource Officer at its most recent meeting. The agreement, which covers the 2026-27 school year, amounts to a total cost of $121,343.35. That is an increase from last year's amount of $117,899.93. All other terms and conditions remain the same.
Also at the recent Board meeting, the District recognized Shawna Rose Wickmark for her collaboration efforts within the school community. Ralston said Wickmark is "absolutely a Black Knight who makes our district better and offers more to our community because of not just what she does, but who she is."
The Board began its meeting with a moment of silence to honor Kiera "Koda" Beckstrom, a student who recently passed away.
The next Silver Creek Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Seneca Nation of Indians Early Childhood Learning Center.
