It appears Republicans will once again hold the majority of the Chautauqua County Legislature and have a shot of getting a super majority.

Currently Republicans hold a 13-6 advantage in the legislature.

Following Tuesday's unofficial election results, it appears Republicans have at least 12 legislators returning, while Democrats have only five guaranteed to return. There are two races that are too close to call, both which are currently held by Democrats.

The two close races are in districts 9 and 11, both which are in Jamestown.

In District 9, Republican challenger John Vogan received 795 votes, while incumbent Vince DeJoy, a Democrat, received 783 votes, which puts Vogan in the lead by 12 votes. DeJoy is in the process of moving to North Carolina and has already resigned from the seat. In October, retired Legislator Democratic Legislator Chuck Nazzaro was sworn into the seat. He indicated that should DeJoy win, he would again accept the appointment to return to the seat in January.

Meanwhile, in District 11, incumbent Democratic Legislator Robert Whitney Jr. received 808 votes over Republican challenger Jeremy Maggio who received 793 votes, which puts Whitney ahead by 15 votes.

Those races will likely come down to absentee ballots. If Republicans pick up at least one of the two seats, it would give them a super majority on the county legislature, because they would have a two-thirds majority.

In District 2, Legislator Bob Bankoski, D-Dunkirk was unopposed.
