Charles R. Loveland
Jan. 17, 1940 Feb. 20, 2015 Charles Robert Loveland went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2015. Our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle was born January 17, 1940, in Wayland, NY. As a son of Harley J. and Florence B. Loveland, he learned early on the importance of family and was devoted to both his parents and siblings, as well as his wife and children, throughout his lifetime. As a young attorney, he saw the need for youth, especially teenagers, to have a stable life. Consequently, Charles and his wife, Roberta, were happy to open their home to several foster children.
On August 8, 1970, Charles married the love of his life, Roberta J. Lewis and was blessed with three sons: Harley, Arthur, and Matthew. He filled his life-time teaching his sons the values he cherished so much. He was a diligent worker who, as a teenager, worked countless hours mowing cemetery lawns in the summer to earn money to buy a horse. Charles was a dedicated animal lover. As a small boy, when his beagle’s tail was run over, the veterinarian said he would have to cut it off. Charles said a “dog has to have a tail”. The vet agreed and experimentally sewed it back together. It wagged fine from then on. When Charles decided to become an attorney and applied to law school, he was interviewed at Cornell. The interviewer told him that although his undergraduate grades were not the highest, he scored so high on their law school admission test that they wanted to accept him. Throughout his career, he was known for being brutally honest, blunt and straightforward. However, at the same time, he displayed an enormous amount of empathy to everyone. Charles was intelligent and witty. He truly enjoyed British humor and puns, responding with large guffaws of laughter. His other great joys were sailing, football, classical music and opera. Charles was much more than his career accomplishments. With a strong faith instilled in him as a youth at the Methodist church in Wayland, he lived his life as a true believer who now rests with his Lord as he would wish. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, three sons, sister Marlyce Loveland Wright and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday February 28th at 11 a.m .at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, Brocton, NY. A second service will be held July 25th at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, Penn Yan, NY. Stories and accounts of his life can be viewed and shared at healgrief.org/charles-loveland-02202015/
