Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. There will be no calling hours. John H. Britt, age 59, of Dunkirk, New York passed away unexpectedly Friday morning (Feb. 20, 2015) at home with his “buddy” Tri-Con at his side.Born in Dunkirk on March 22, 1955, he was the son of Jean M. (Stalter) Britt of Fredonia and the late Henry T. Britt. John was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1974. He was employed for over 40 years as a Freezer Mechanic at Fieldbrook Foods. John, along with his brothers James Britt and
Timothy Britt, loved their #66 Race Car, spending every summer weekend racing at Stateline Speedway for the past 11 years. John placed 1st in his heat many times over those years and also was a 26-year veteran of the Chautauqua County Demolition Derby. John was an accomplished woodworker, hand-crafting many beautiful items in his home. He also was an avid deer hunter and Buffalo Bills fan for many years. A quiet, unimposing man, John was always ready to help family and friends when needed, never expecting or accepting anything in return for his time and efforts. Besides his mother, John is survived by his wife, Alice Mekus-Britt; brothers James (Carol) Britt of Forestville and Timothy Britt of Dunkirk; sisters Carol (Robert) Konert of Fredonia, Sandra (Robert) Schulze of Forestville; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Norman) Sager; stepsons Kenneth Mekus, Scott Mekus and Christopher Mekus; nephews Adam Kwasneski, Jason Britt, Chad Majecki and Mark Daniels; nieces Amber Blair, Ashley Lanfear and Cassandra Majecki; great-nephews Gavin Blair, Alex Daniels and Blake Daniels; great-nieces Adri-anna Blair, Avery Lanfear and Sydne Daniels; and step-granddaughter, Jacinda Mekus. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his sister, Mary L. Britt.
