Aurea Echevarria-Torres
Aurea Echevarria-Torres, age 77, of Dunkirk, N.Y. died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at UMPC Hamot in Erie, PA, after a brief illness, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born July 16, 1937 in Jayuya, P.R. to the late Felix and Maria (Fernandez) Torres. Arriving in Dunkirk in 1956, became a lifelong resident and homemaker. She enjoyed bingo and scratch off tickets. Aurea was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Dunkirk.
Aurea is survived by her two daughters: Ada Echevarria (Luis) Cornier of Orlando, Fla. and Edith Echevarria of Buffalo, N.Y.; her seven sons: Raymond, Ivan, Nelson, and Angel Echevarria all of Dunkirk, N.Y., Clay Echevarria of Montchanin, DE, Jay and Clark Echevarria both of Buffalo, N.Y. She is also survived by a grandson she raised, Jason Echevarria of Buffalo, N.Y.; two brothers: Neftalie (Daisy) Torres of Dunkirk, N.Y. and Angel (Iris) Torres of Patterson, N.J.; 7 sisters: Lydia (late Manuel) DeJesus and Mercedes (Manuel) Rosas both of Dunkirk, N.Y., Norma Torres Acevedo and Estevi-na (Jose) Ortero both of Patterson, N.J., Celina Pagan and Elisa Gonzales of both Puerto Rico and Luz Maria Torres of Fredo-nia, N.Y., also 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Aurea is preceded in death by her husband Ramon Echevarria in 2000. Two brothers, Felix Torres and infant Angel Torres, three sisters Aida Torres, Conchita Torres, and infant Estevina Torres, and an infant granddaughter Aurea Echevarria.
The family sends a special acknowledgment to Aurea’s caregivers: grand-sons, Joseph Ruiz and Michael Saez, son Ray-mond Echevarria, and best friend Concepcition “Candy” Dipini. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
