Genevieve “Jenny” Wisniewski

Genevieve “Jenny” Wisniewski, 85, of South Martin Street, Dunkirk died Monday April 25, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with melanoma (skin cancer). She was born January 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Stanley and Salomea (Kuznicki) Tofil. Jenny worked at the Faculty Student Association at the State University College at Fredonia for several years. Her duties included serving the Buffalo Bills during their training camp. She quit her job to be a permanent babysitter for her grandchildren. She was a founding member of the Dunkirk Little League Auxiliary, a past member of the Chautauqua

County Home Auxiliary and the St. Hyacinth’s Mothers’ Club. She was a former member of St. Hyacinth’s Church, now Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish and the parish Sunshine Club. She was a dedicated caregiver for the majority of her life. Jenny enjoyed gardening, reading – especially poetry, fun trips to Florida, Bingo and slots and watching the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were extremely special to her. She is survived by her husband, Edward F. Wisniewski, with whom she would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 28; her three sons, David (Elisabeth) Wisniewski of Sorrento, Florida, Gregory (Kathryn) Wisniewski of Silver Creek and Mark (Lynn) Wisniewski of Dunkirk; her daughter, Carol (Kevin) Ahlstrom of Dunkirk; her brother, Anthony “James” Tofil of Sheridan; and her sister Joan Robertson of Skiatook, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Caroline Tofil of Dunkirk and several nieces and nephews. She had ten grandchildren, Michael, Lori, Paul, Lynn, Steve, Matthew, Jacob, Stephanie, Megan and Nicholas; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kara, Anna, Aiden, Ian, Katelyn, Wayne, Arbor, Reagan, Amelia, Abigail, Olivia, Joselyn and Nora.She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Peter, George, Thomas, Joseph, Francis, Michael, Leo and Lorence Tofil; two sisters, Sophie T. Sikora and Mary Tofil; and two nephews, Timothy Paul Tofil and John S. Tofil. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish – St. Hyacinth’s Worship Site. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc. from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.
