Chester Francis Nedvesky, 90, died on November 7, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY. He was born on February
15, 1926 in Iselin, PA to the late Stanley and Rose (Witka) Niedzwiedski. He graduated from high school in PA and at the age of 50, graduated with honors (4.0 GPA) from the Empire State College and was recognized in “Who’s Who Among American Students”.During WWII, Chester was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force. He served in the European Theater of Operations. He was a radio operator with the Air Transport Service. In 1946, he escorted former president Herbert Hoover through Europe on the World Famine Tour. In 1949, after graduating from Kansas City, Mo. Radio School, he took his first radio job in Shelby, MT as Chief Engineer and Announcer. After a year in MT, he relocated to Butler, PA to be close to his family in the greater Pittsburgh area. After a short stint in Butler, he relocated to Wheeling, WV. While there, he met his bride and love of his life, Virginia Lee Truax. On November 29, 1952,
they were married in Wheeling. In 1959, he settled in Fredonia, where he took a position with the WDOE Radio Station. It was there that they raised their four wonderful and cherished children. Chester’s lifelong career was in the radio industry. He was a Chief Radio Engineer and Announcer. at WDOE, his radio persona was Chet “Rodgers”. After he finished his employment with WDOE, he took a po-
sition in Chautauqua County as a the Civil Defense Radio Officer and developed the first major Radio Communication System for the County.Chester was accomplished at golfing and was an avid reader. He was a very active and dedicated member of St. Anthony’s
Parish in Fredonia. He enjoyed many years of volunteer service in the community, including Meals on Wheels and the Chautauqua County Home. Chester is survived by his three sons- Michael E. Nedvesky of Syracuse, NY, Chester F. Nedvesky of Rochester, NY, Stephen J. (Patricia) Nedvesky of Charlotte, NC, and daughter, Catherine M (James) Hanskutt of Melbourne, FL. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers,
John, Joseph, and Stanley and five sisters, Stella, Helen, Jennie, Tillie and Leona. The family would like to thank the kindness of his dear friends, Ronald “Barky” Bartkowski, the Orosz family and his loving neighbors. Chester’s Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia, NY, with the Reverend Daniel P. Walsh as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass and may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main Street, Fredonia,
