Lynne McElhaney passed away on December 13, 2016.
She grew up on Point Gratiot in Dunkirk and returned to live in her childhood home following her retirement.
A graduate of Buffalo State College, she studied art and studied abroad in Siena, Italy. She started her career as a secondary school teacher in the Dunkirk Public School System and became a professor of art and design at Buffalo State College. She developed close relationships with many of her students, which she maintained into her retirement. She also exhibited her art regularly in local galleries, including numerous shows at the BurchfieldPenney Art Center.
She loved spending time with her grandsons and took them on many outdoor adventures. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends on her porch by the lake. Other pursuits included gardening and beachcombing.
She is survived by her daughter, Molly Benton, her son, Rob (Amy) Napieralski; two grandsons, Ethan and Ben Napieralski; one sister, Gail Feser; two brothers, Scott McElhaney and Craig (Brenda) McElhaney; one niece, Erinn McElhaney; and one nephew, Owen McElhaney.
Calling hours will be held Saturday (December 17, 2016) from 36 p.m. at the McGrawKowal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation.
