Frank Herrington

Frank Allen Herrington, 64, of Dunkirk died peacefully Saturday morning (May 6, 2017) at Lake Shore Hospital in Irving following a valiant 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born Sept. 27, 1952 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Harold and Rena (Mason) Herrington.

Raised in the Sheridan/Silver Creek area, Frank was a graduate of Silver Creek High School, Class of 1970.

He had worked for 49 years, beginning at the age of 14 with Falcone Farms. Prior to his retirement on Jan. 4, 2016, he had been employed as a delivery truck driver for Chautauqua Brick in Fredonia for 19 years. Other places of employment included Kraft Foods until its closing, Falconer Glass, Nog Inc., and the City of Dunkirk Streets Department.

Frank was best known in the community as the smiling, happy-go-lucky Friday night bartender at the Dom Polski Club, a position he held for 30 years. He considered the club’s regular patrons to be his extended family and was wellloved by them.

An avid Buffalo Sabres fan since the team’s formation in 1970, he enjoyed attending games with his daughter, Roxie. He participated in Roxie’s 13-year career as a softball pitcher by serving as her practice catcher and biggest supporter. He also liked shooting pool and watching NASCAR races.

Frank will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved his family and friends.

He was a parishioner of Blessed Mary Angela Parish and a life member of the Moniuszko Club and Dom Polski Club.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary Ann (Kolassa) Herrington, whom he met at Dom Polski’s and married Aug. 6, 1988; two daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Adams of Belton, Texas and Roxanne ‘Roxie’ (fiance Michael Polichetti) Herrington of Niles, Ohio; his sister, Patricia Taber of Silver Creek; one nephew, John Taber of Silver Creek; one niece, Cheryl Doner of Silver Creek; three grand-daughters, Felicia Thrasher of Webb City, Mo., Olivia Gendron of Forestville and Genna Gendron of Belton; one great-granddaughter, Alysha Osborne of Webb City; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Herrington II, who died Dec. 21, 1992.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:15 from the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock in Blessed Mary Angela Parish, Church of St. Hedwig. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.
