Vivian R. Steward

Vivian was born July 11, 1934 in Cattaraugus, NY the daughter of Louis Legrand and Nell Rose (Curtis ) Howard.

Vivian married Carl J. Steward in the Dayton United Methodist Church June 27, 1953. Carl passed away unexpectedly July 30, 1972 leaving Vivian a young widow with five young kids to raise. Vivian taught her children self respect, faith, hope and love. Vivian was very involved with her children and grandchildren; she loved to crochet and sew. She sewed a lot of her children’s clothing and sewed and crocheted for Love INC. In Gowanda, pieces she donated to help clothe and keep warm the needy. Vivian was a member of the Perrysburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son; Robert C. (Shirley) Steward of South Dayton, three daughters; Sheryl (Rick) King of Spring, TX, Kathy (Cedric) Logan of San Diego, CA and Ann (Patrick) Hayes of Woodbury Heights, NJ, 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren along with two brothers; Leslie “Popeye” (Sylvia) Howard of South Dayton and Lester (Shirley) Howard of Deerfield, Ind. also survive. Vivian is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda, SUNDAY from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. where funeral services will be held Monday July 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment in the Cherry Creek Central Cemetery.
