Edward Harrison Cortright
Edward Harrison Cortright, 80, of Silver Creek, passed away on Sept. 1. 2017. He was born on December 21, 1936, but would have told you his real birthdate was December 24th. Edward was the son of the late Moses and Frances (McHenry) Cortright.
Born in Oswego, NY, “Ed” was the baby of seven children. After marrying Kathleen “Kay” Cloonan, Edward and his Cortright family eventually moved to South Dayton, NY. Ed lived in Silver Creek, NY for the past 15 years. Edward was a very hard-working man, held several jobs during his life. He worked at the Gowanda Tannery, a vineyard and finally retired from Cliffstar in 2011.
Edward thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids on his boat on Lake Erie. There was never a bad time fishing when you are with someone you love. In addition to fishing, Ed was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. He loved spending time outdoors and he especially loved bird watching.
Surviving Edward are his four children, Sharon Ruckh (Jeff House), Daniel Cortright, Coleen (Tim) Cobb, and John (Jackie) Cortright. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (John and Buddy), three sisters (Margaret, Charlotte, and Arlene), his late wife Kathleen, loving companion Pat and his beloved dog Trish.
At Edward’s request, there will be no viewing/calling hours. Instead, a Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the family’s convenience in the summer of 2018 at the Silver Creek Fireman’s Club. The family suggests Memorial Contributions in Ed’s memory to the Silver Creek Emergency Squad, 162 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY 14136.
