John (”Jack”) Mages

John “Jack” Mages of Akron, New York, passed away peacefully in Hospice on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 after a long battle with kidney disease. He was born on Sept. 24, 1941 to the late John and Eva (Manke) Mages of Buffalo.

He was a member of the Cleve Hill Class of 1959. He worked many years in construction and spent 16 years as a Freezer Technician at Perry’s Ice Cream. He also spent some time at Aakron Rule.

Jack married his teenage sweetheart Shirley (Hastreiter) in 1967.

Those who knew Jack knew how devoted he was to Shirley and how much he loved spending time at the beach. Jack and Shirley would take the kids to Sherkston every weekend when they were little. He enjoyed beach vacations to Florida, Outer Banks and Aruba. Jack could always be found at the local coffee shop enjoying a good cup of coffee and visiting with friends. Jack was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed watching Bills and Sabres’ games on TV. Jack loved to spend time with his dog Sugar and his grandchildren. Christmas was his favorite time of year with his grandkids.

Beloved husband of 50 years to Shirley (Hastreiter) Mages. Jack was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Aileen and Bob Phillips, and his son Steve Mages. Surviving Jack are his sons James Mages, Keith (Kim) Mages, Jeff (Barb Mull) Mages, John Mages; daughter Tammy (Jon) Fox; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church on 5771 Buell St. in Akron, NY.
