Beverly Jean Newton

Beverly Jean Newton

On December 18, 2017, Roy Newton reached down and took Beverly Jean Newton’s hand to bring her home to celebrate Christmas in Heaven. Beverly, 79, of Silver Creek, NY, passed away peacefully at Brooks Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born on November 4, 1938, in Silver Creek to Jack and Jane Myers Smith. The family would travel to Jack’s hometown of Mobile, Alabama every year. She loved traveling there and spending time with her aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. It was there that she developed a sense of humor, hospitality and adventure which she carried with her for her entire life.

She loved to go hiking, collecting rocks and spotting birds along the way. Beverly loved taking long drives in the country. She loved music, whether she was singing silly songs, or playing the organ for the Zion Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. She loved getting lost in history books and mystery stories, often staying up for hours at night to read.

Beverly owned many books and read every one of them. Her husband would often tease her by saying she could open up her own library. In her passing, her beloved books were distributed among family members, donated to area libraries and to the Vietnam Veterans of America and some were also used as wedding centerpieces.

She loved laughing and having fun everywhere she went.

Beverly was a member of the Silver Creek Shakespeare Club. She later became an employee of the Silver Creek Central School District.

Perhaps her greatest adventure of all, Beverly married Roy Newton on June 11, 1960.

They leave behind four children, Wendy (Craig) Harrington; Roy Scott (Janice) Newton; James Newton; and Colby (Patricia) Newton of Silver Creek. Beverly is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandchildren Matt (Marla) Newton of Hagerstown, Maryland; Wendy, Jonathan, Morgen, Ethan and Caden Newton of Silver Creek; and great grandson, Jayden Bauza. Beverly is also survived by her sister, Betty Griewisch, along with several nieces and nephews.

Her legacy of knowledge, music and laughter lives on in every single one of them.

Preceded in death in addition to her parents is her husband Roy Newton Jr., granddaughter, Kayla Rebecca Newton, and niece, Carolyn Hall.

Her remains were donated to the University of Buffalo medical school to advance study of the cause of geriatric care and research into Alzheimer’s disease.

A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in her memory to the Anderson Lee Library, 43 Main Street, Silver Creek NY, 14136, Zion Lutheran Church, 11 Porter Avenue, Silver Creek, NY 14136 or the Silver Creek Emergency Squad, 162 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, NY 14136.
