Carol Ann O’Sullivan (1930 – 2018)
Carol Ann O'Sullivan (1930 - 2018)
Carol Ann (Zimmerman) O’Sullivan, a long-time resident of Fredonia, New York and more recently of Medina, Ohio, died Monday January 8 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Medina, Ohio. She was 87.
Carol Ann was the second child of five children born to John and Cecelia Zimmerman of Buffalo, New York. A consummate mother and homemaker, Carol Ann excelled at cooking and keeping her tribe of five sons and a daughter, as well as numerous friends and relatives well fed. A voracious reader of history and biographies, she was also a sports fan who especially enjoyed watching baseball. A loving and attentive grandmother to her 10 grandchildren, Carol Ann managed to keep track of all their many activities and milestones as they progressed from diapers to diplomas. Always eager to explore new areas and people, from the vineyards of California, beaches of Florida, countryside of Ireland or the great north of Alaska, Carol Ann was a happy, upbeat companion with a quick smile to the stranger and an open heart towards the unknown. She held an especially soft spot in her heart for sea otters, those cute balls of fur who enjoy eating shellfish almost as much as she did.
The family would also like to especially thank Carol Ann’s sons Brian and Neal for the loving care they extended to her during these past years.
Carol Ann was predeceased by her husband Leo W. O’Sullivan. She was also predeceased by her sister Mary Jane McCortney, brother John Zimmerman and grand daughter Lauren Thompson. Carol Ann is survived by her sisters Geraldine Zimmerman and Barbara Zolnowski, and her children and their spouses: Brian O’Sullivan, Medina, OH; Kevin (Cristine) O’Sullivan, Juneau, Alaska; Kerry O’Sullivan, Greenville, SC; Kyle (Hugh) Thompson, Erie, PA; Neal O’Sullivan, Medina, OH; and Bruce (Janice) O’Sullivan, Hartsville, SC. Her loving grandchildren Lindsey (Michael), Corey (Sara), Erika, Liam, Hannah, Andrea, Brian, Neal, and James will miss her dearly, as will numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of Carol Ann’s life will be held May 26, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fredonia, New York beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a gathering at the church, followed by mass at noon and a graveside blessing at St. Anthony Cemetery. Afterwards, the family invites friends and guests to a reception to be held in the St. Joseph Elementary school cafeteria located next to the church.
