Robert F. McMinn
Robert F. McMinn, 87, of Fredonia, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Robert F. and Dorathy (Morgan) McMinn.
Following graduation from Turtle Creek, PA High School, Bob worked for Union Railroad in East Pittsburgh before serving four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While attending college he also worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in East Pittsburgh. In 1960, he accepted employment with the Allegheny Ludlum Corporation in Dunkirk, NY.
In 1966 he joined the Dunkirk Ice Cream Company as Maintenance Manager and served in that capacity until his retirement.
During his career, he was an active member of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, serving as President in 1978. He also served on committees of the United Way Board. He was a member of the American Legion Post 59 in Fredonia, and a member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, serving for a time as deacon. Following his retirement he delivered Meals on Wheels with his wife for 10 years, and enjoyed several seasons driving the Fredonia Trolley.
Enjoying restoration of furniture and antiques, he worked with the Preservation Society on chairs for the Fredonia Opera House. He also helped restore the entrance doors at the Gatehouse of Forest Hill Cemetery. For his church, he restored a communion table, a baptismal font, and a lectern.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn McMinn; son, Jeffrey McMinn of Fredonia; daughter, Heather McMinn of Rochester, NH; and daughter, Dr. Melinda (Vincent Pompo) McMinn of Syracuse, NY; brother, Richard McMinn of Fredonia; nephew, William Wells of Fredonia; and niece, Susan Wells of Dunkirk.
He was predeceased by his sister, Janet (McMinn) Wells and nephew, Robert Wells.
Calls may be made Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 46 p.m. at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, where a memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
