Butch Gabel
GOWANDA — Daryl “Butch” Gabel of Prospect St. passed away early Wednesday morning April 25, 2018 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where he had been convalescing for the past month.
Butch was 77 years old.Born in Dayton, NY, one of 15 children born to Jacob and Catherine (Wagenblatt) Gabel December 25, 1940.
Daryl retired from NY State; at the time of his retirement he worked in Maintenance at the former JN Adam Developmental Center in Perrysburg. Butch also worked at the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center transferring to JN Adam after the Psych Center closed. Butch was a member of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Gowanda.
Survivors include his wife the former Elizabeth “Liz” Marki along with 3 children; a daughter Carol (Mark) Machuga of Gotha, Fla., two sons Ronald Gabel of Fla and Kevin (Melanie) Gabel of North Tonawanda; two grandchildren; Emily and Sara Gabel along with three sisters; Josephine Milks of Fla., twin sisters Janice Chadwick of Collins and Joyce Ivett of Perrysburg. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Besides his parents, Butch is preceded in death by 2 daughters, Virginia and Sarah Gabel, 10 brothers (in no specific order) LeRoy, Herman, Edward, Raymond, Richard, Chester, Charles, Gerald, Donald “Jacob” and Robert Gabel. A sister Marie Taber also preceded Butch in death.Funeral service will be held SATURDAY MAY 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. from the Gowanda Free Methodist Church 149 West Main St. Gowanda (please assemble at church).
