Josephine (Flagella) “Josie” Siragusa of St. Columban’s on the Lake, Silver Creek, NY formerly of Fredonia, NY passed away peacefully on August 14, 2018 at ECMC Hospital in Buffalo, NY surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was 87 years of age, born in Dunkirk, NY on June 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Dominic and Rose (Zaccari) Flagella.Josephine graduated from Dunkirk High School, Class of 1949. She later attended Jamestown Business College and graduated in 1951 as a medical secretary. She was employed as a switchboard operator at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk prior to working in the office of the late Louis R. Conti, MD, in Dunkirk as a medical secretary.Josie was a sweet, loving, always giving woman and will be missed dearly by her family. Through the years, she enjoyed baking, ceramics, knitting, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Josephine was a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Fredonia.She is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Sheila Kubera), Steven, and Russell (Becky Reynolds) all of Fredonia; grandchildren, Brenden and Breana Siragusa of Fredonia, Andrew Siragusa of California, Jessica (Adam) Jetton and Mary Siragusa, both of North Carolina, Katelyn (Stephen) Gawronski of Fredonia, and Samuel Siragusa of Dunkirk; great-grandchildren, Sierra and Bryson Siragusa, Leo and Josephine (Josie) Jetton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Siragusa, Marion and Jackie Pagano, Rosella Bonadonna and Charles and Linda Siragusa. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (6-12-11) of 57 years, married on 7-11-53, infant daughter, Marie; sisters, Mary Saletta and Theresa Mueller; brothers, Anthony, Emanuel, Frank, and Peter Flagella; in-laws, Marion and Mary Siragusa; sister-in-law, Theresa Pagano; brothers-in-law,
Anthony, Louis and Marion Siragusa; and her loving dog, Heidi.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 9:30 in St. Columban’s on the Lake Chapel, Silver Creek. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in
St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sheridan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Josephine’s name can be made to St. Columban’s on the Lake.
