Richard E. Laemmerhirt

Richard E. Laemmerhirt, 79, of North Serval Street, Dunkirk, died Thursday, July 26th, 2018 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Buffalo, on July 7, 1939, the son of the late Ernest and Mary (McCoy) Laemmerhirt, Sr. Mr. Laemmerhirt attended Forestville Central School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the former Peter Cooper company as a Crane Operator for 23 years, for Westfield Hospital as a Maintenance Man for 9 1/2 years and as a Forklift Operator for the former Red Wing Co., Fredonia, for 3 years. Mr. Laemmerhirt was a member of Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel St. Rose of Lima Church, Forestville, and a member of the former St. Rose altar & rosary society. He loved his family, enjoyed gardening especially his roses & vegetables, carpentry, helping remodel St. Rose of Lima Church and assisting with the Lawn Fete. Survivors include his wife Michalene H. (Tallchief) Laemmerhirt of Dunkirk, whom he married June 27, 1964, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek, four sisters, Grace (Larry) Comstock, Jean Chudzik, Joan (Jerry) Gabel, Ada (Robert) Fisher, three brothers, Ernest Laemmerhirt, Jr., Donald (Deborah) Laemmerhirt and Roy (Carol) Laemmerhirt. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews and his precious cat “mid-night”. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters Mary Ann & Virginia Laemmerhirt and an infant brother Joseph Laemmerhirt. Friends are welcome to call at Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o’clock from Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Rose of Lima Church, Center Street, Forestville, with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn, pastor officiating.
