Edith L. Wright, 87, of Dunkirk died Monday evening (Sept. 24, 2018) at
the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk following a lengthy illness. She was born March 1, 1931 in Pontefract, a historic market town in West Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Lewis and Edith (Moore) Lewis. A resident of Dunkirk since 1959, Edith was employed at Tops Market in Dunkirk, The Migrant Day Care Center in Fredonia, as the TV Hostess at Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk and finally working in the Children's Room at the Dunkirk Free Library. Working with her very dear friend Jan Jarvis (Children's Librarian) was her most enjoyable job. The children meant so much to her. She was an accomplished singer, classically trained in England; she performed in the High Fever Follies shows that benefited Brooks Hospital, many Flag Day celebrations held in Washington Park (Dunkirk, NY) and a radio show called Breakfast with WBUZ. Singing was so very important to her and the source of great joy for her.She had also enjoyed her retirement spending time with her children and grandchildren and trips to England to visit her family still in England.Survivors include three daughters, Carol (late Kip) Ames of Brocton, Julie (John) Wilcox of Irving, Lisa (Kurt) Warmbrodt of Dunkirk; five grandchildren, Christopher Small, Ryan Wilcox, Chelse Wilcox, Sgt. Lucy M. (Mitchem Anderson) Warmbrodt, Thomas (Miranda Strek-Greco) Warmbrodt, also several nieces and nephews in England.Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ronald P. Wright who died June 23, 2000; a son Stephen P. Wright on March 10, 2016; three sisters Doris Clarke, Elsie Burkimsher and May Bradshaw; and one brother Thomas Lewis. Memorial Services will be held Saturday Oct. 27, 2018 at 2 o'clock in St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 16 W Fourth St. Dunkirk. The Rev. Helen Sam and the Rev. Yvonne Fancher will officiate. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in Webster Road Cemetery, Fredonia, New York. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Children's Room at the Dunkirk Free Library. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
