Jean P. Doehnert

Jean (Roffe) Doehnert of Arlington, formerly of Gowanda, NY passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Saturday October 27, 2018 in Arlington. Jean was born in Gowanda an only child to Charles and Mildred (Schmidt) Roffe. October 6, 1926. Jean graduated from Gowanda High School Class of ’44. While in school and after graduation Jean would help her parents in the family bakery in Gowanda, the former Roffe’s Model Bakery located on West Main St.

On September 18, 1948 she married Paul Doehnert, Paul passed away in 1982. Jean worked at various places in western NY including Trico and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo before working in Gowanda as elementary school secretary Retiring in 1989 after 25 years of service.

Jean was an active member of her church, Trinity United Church of Christ of Gowanda where she taught Sunday School, was on the church council and volunteered and chaired many programs and activities . Jean was also a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 276 and supportive parent to Boy Scout Troop 151.

After retirement Jean enjoyed outings with her family and friends which included the “Y Girls” (friends from her college days at Bryant and Stratton in Buffalo) along with her

retired teachers “Lunch Bunch” and her Sunday after church ladies. Jean was a member of various groups in Gowanda while here including the American Legion Auxiliary (since 1935), Gowanda Ambulance Board, Friends of the Collins Public Library, Gowanda Sesquicentennial Calendar Committee, Meals on Wheels, and she volunteered at the Gowanda Correctional Visitors Center. Jean enjoyed knitting especially scarves and afgans.

Survivors include 2 sons, Mark (Miriam) Doehnert of Falls Church, Va, Kurt (Kimberly) Doehnert of Springfield, Va, grandchildren Jeremy (Lisa) Doehnert of Md, Brian Doehnert of Oh, Nathan Doehnert of Va. Great grandchildren Sydney Jean and Reese James also survive along with 3 nephews and their families. A Service of Celebration will take place Saturday December 8, 2018 @ 11 am from the Trinity United Church of Christ 30 Erie Ave. Gowanda , NY after which Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Pine Hill Cemetery Gowanda.
