DEWITTVILLE — Betty Alberta Penhollow Stage, 86, of Dewittville, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Westfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 31, 1933 in Russell, PA, the daughter of the late Leland Penhollow and Elsie Haskins Kenworthy.
Betty had been a Corrections Officer for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department for thirteen years. She had also worked at Welch’s, the Mar Mar, and the Sword and Shield.
She was the former secretary for the Dewittville United Methodist Church, a member of the Dewittville Fire Department Auxiliary, and a current member of the Church on the Rock in Lakewood.
Betty had many church related interests and loved helping the less fortunate. She also loved horses and enjoyed sewing, knitting, her dog Lucky, her cat Oreo, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband; Paul Leland Stage, whom she married May 3, 1969 in Dewittville, her four children; Gloria Nickerson, of Jamestown, Sharry (Tom) Russo of Deltona, FL, Timothy Stage of Baltimore, MD, and Scott D. Stage of Dewittville, four grandchildren; Michael Russo, Nicholas (Jessica) Russo, Christopher Russo, Brian Stage, three step grandchildren; Trevor, Tage and Keith Nickerson, five great grandchildren; Austin, Nicholas, Roman, Kinley, and Camden, one brother; Ralph (Ginny) Penhollow, one sister; Cora Mitchell, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Ruth Heath and Kay Collingwood.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Dewittville United Methodist Church (5452 Meadows Rd, Dewittville, NY 14728). The Rev. Doug Kibbe and Rev. Mike Quimby will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St, Mayville, NY).
