Retired Dunkirk Police Lieutenant Walter F. Sliwinski, 77, of Fredonia died peacefully at home Sunday morning (May 12, 2019) with his family by his side. He was born in Buffalo on December 29, 1941, the son of the late Louis and Felicia (Bednarz) Sliwinski. A 1959 graduate of

Bishop Ryan High School in Buffalo, Mr. Sliwinski joined the Dunkirk Police Department in 1971. He married Frances Elizabeth Trippi in 1969 at Holy Trinity Church, and would have celebrated 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife on June 14. An avid Bills and Sabres

fan, Walt also enjoyed camping, landscaping, carpentry, and the love of his dog Mandy. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons David

Sliwinski and Michael Sliwinski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Reformat. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in Holy Trinity Church, with arrangements entrusted to McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers,the family encourages donations to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W.
