Marva V. Burt

Marva V. Burt, 95, of Fredonia died Tuesday morning (Aug. 6, 2019) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.

She was born March 28, 1924 in Osceola, PA, the daughter of the late Clifford and Florence (Hurlbut) Van Dusen. Marva was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy, Class of 1943

and also graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1946.

Marva was a lifelong member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a talented seamstress who not only made countless

doll clothes and dresses for her daughter, but also her beautiful wedding gown.

Survivors include one daughter, Vanessa (Roger) Volk of Fredonia; two grandchildren, Andrew (Jeanie) Volk of Silver Creek and Emily A. (Aaron) Smith of Fredonia; four great grandchildren, Caleb D. Volk and Addison M. Volk, both of Silver Creek, and Ella R. Smith and Ava E. Smith, both of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton W. Burt, whom she married Oct. 23, 1949 and who died June 25, 2009; and one brother, Foster B. Van

Dusen of Penn Yan.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock in the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY. Pastor Cynthia S. Wickwire will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
